Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.
Main Bible Passage: Psalm 139:13-14
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you
because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
In a society that often measures worth by external achievements and appearances, it is crucial to
understand that our true value comes from how God has created us. Psalm 139:13-14 reveals the intimate and intentional way God has formed each of us. This knowledge is foundational to
understanding our identity and self-worth.
The psalmist, David, celebrates the intricate and deliberate work of God in creating us. When David says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb,” he acknowledges that every part of us, from our physical form to our deepest emotions and thoughts, is crafted by God. This divine craftsmanship is not haphazard but is executed with awe-inspiring precision and care.
The phrase “fearfully and wonderfully made” highlights two profound truths about our creation. “Fearfully” implies that God’s creation process invokes reverence and awe. The way we are made reflects His greatness and meticulous attention to detail. “Wonderfully made” indicates that we are unique and special, created with a purpose that aligns with God’s perfect plan.
David’s response to this realization is praise: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Recognizing that we are God’s wonderful works leads us to worship Him, appreciating His power and love in making us exactly who we are.
Life Application: Understanding that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God should transform our self-perception and interactions with others. Take time today to reflect on the areas of your life where you may struggle with self-worth or comparison. Remind yourself that your value is intrinsic because God created you with intention and love. Celebrate the unique aspects of your personality, talents, and body, acknowledging them as gifts from God. When you encounter others, view them through the lens of God’s creation, appreciating their intrinsic worth and treating them with respect and kindness.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me fearfully and wonderfully. Help me to graspthe depth of Your love and craftsmanship in my life. Teach me to see myself and others through Your eyes, recognizing the inherent value and purpose You have placed within us. May my life be a continuous praise to You, reflecting the wonder of Your creation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
